My Collection

Welcome To My Collection

When I decided to collect birds on stamp's their were three main points I focused on, the stamps in my collection must be Mint Never Hinged (MNH) in complete sets, even though some sets of stamps only had one or two examples within the set and must contain at least one stamp with a bird on it. Where does my collection begin and end, well the obvious would be at the beginning when, the first pictorial stamps featuring a bird was printed and that was in 1854 Western Australia, Black Swan ( I do not own one yet) up to the end of the year 2000. This has made collecting for me more interesting, as earlier sets were usually mounted in mint condition and finding complete sets has now became more difficult to obtain and unfortunately more expensive to buy.

There are number of excellent books, catalogues and web site's available to collectors on the subject of birds, how to collect, mount and present your collection, basically I collect by numbers, I go to Stamp fairs, Shows and Exhibitions with a list of catalogue numbers in the hope of obtaining a complete set, sometimes I am unable to purchase a complete unmounted mint set, so I buy a single bird stamp and then work on obtaining the rest of the set, which again makes collecting more interesting.

All my albums are in Alphabetical order and each Album holds all Countries beginning with a letter of the Album, in my GB Album you will find my collection of GB Queen Elizabeth 11 Pre-Decimal issues, which started me off in the 1970's and you will also find a few Victorian stamps that I have managed to pickup on the way.

As with most collections, mine is still on going and no doubt never ending.
