I have been a collector on and off for a number of years, in fact I joined a stamp club at school in the early 70's and I have carried on from there ever since.
My main interests, Birds on stamps, I know nothing about Birds or their ornithological names. I'm not really a Thematic or Topical collector in real terms, I just like collecting stamps with birds on, they don't even have to be authentic representation of birds, I collect anything that resembles our little feathered friends.
I'm not a philatelist, or an expert in my field, but I am a stamp collector, can I really call myself a stamp collector, of course I can, I collect Stamps and that's what stamp collecting is all about, you don't have to stick to set rules, yes rules do apply in Shows and Exhibitions, but really it's all about what you as a collector want to collect and how you want to collect it, and this is what I collect and the way I collect it.
Please take a look at my collection, there's no point in collecting something if you can't show it to other interested collectors.
